Omnitracs, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated and provider of integrated wireless systems, applications and services to transportation and logistics companies, announced its 25th anniversary. As announced on Aug. 23, 2013, a definitive agreement was entered into to sell Omnitracs to Vista Equity Partners, a U.S.-based private equity firm. Closing of the acquisition is expected during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, subject to the terms and conditions of the definitive agreement.
Established in 1988 by Qualcomm, the company is recognized as the pioneer in introducing wireless telematics technology to the commercial fleet industry. Upon signing Schneider National as its first customer later that year, Omnitracs established the building blocks of the commercial vehicle telematics industry. Southern Pride Trucking also signed up.

Omnitracs also announced a new adoption milestone for its Hours of Service (HOS) application. More than 200,000 units across hundreds of fleets now use this application to enable more accurate, real-time driver log reporting for improved compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
Wynne Transport Service, Inc., one of the largest bulk liquid and compressed gas transportation fleets in North America, recently adopted Omnitracs HOS application across its fleet of more than 200 trucks. Looking to continue compliance management and promote safe driver practices, Wynne Transport Service selected Omnitracs’ HOS because it is an easy to adopt web-based application, which can be rapidly updated over-the-air should rule changes occur.
Additionally, the intuitive user interface minimized the amount of driver training required for them to transition to the Omnitracs HOS application.
