Texas woman sentenced for role in staged-accident fraud scheme

Another sentencing has been handed down in the widespread staged-accident fraud scheme in New Orleans targeting trucking companies.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana announced that Genetta Isreal, of Houston, Texas, was sentenced to three years of probation with the first six months to be served under home confinement. She was also ordered to pay $28,816.64 in restitution and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

According to court documents, Damian Labeaud, Mario Solomon, Larry Williams, and Isreal were charged with staging an accident on June 12, 2017, occurring on Chef Menteur Highway near the Danziger Bridge in New Orleans. Labeaud and Williams planned to stage an automobile accident to obtain money through fraud.

During their planning, Labeaud told Williams that he had an attorney, Daniel Patrick Keating, who has been identified in other documents filed in court, who would handle everything. Williams recruited Isreal and another individual to participate in the scheme.

So far, 29 of 33 indicted individuals in the scheme have entered guilty pleas in federal court.

DHL integrating TuSimple autonomous tech into fleet

TuSimple have entered into a global partnership to adopt, integrate and scale TuSimple's autonomous trucking technology into DHL's operations.

In early December, DHL began daily freight haul operations utilizing TuSimple's San Antonio-to-Dallas Autonomous Freight Network (AFN). Now, with this extension of the partnership, DHL says it has reserved 100 autonomous trucks being co-developed by TuSimple and Navistar in the U.S.

With the integration of TuSimple's L4 technology into its network, DHL aims to leverage the potential of TuSimple's autonomous driving technology specifically designed to meet the demands of heavy-duty trucks.

"Partnering with leading-edge technology companies is foundational to our digital transformation strategy, and TuSimple will play a key role in supporting our adoption of next wave transportation solutions," said Jim Monkmeyer, President, Transportation, DHL Supply Chain. "We share TuSimple's vision of utilizing efficiencies to drive a more sustainable future and have been encouraged by the results so far."

Deliveright expanding into Canada

Final mile digital delivery platform Deliveright announced it is expanding its coverage area to the Canadian market.

Deliveright is a heavy goods delivery platform that manages all stages of fulfillment for both national retailers and delivery companies, with visibility from the first- to the last mile. Until now, the company delivered heavy and non-conveyable goods across the United States.

Responding to a surge in demand from e-commerce and less-than-truckload freight customers that ship heavy or non-conveyable goods into Canada, Deliveright's AI-fueled platform now provides a solution for the ubiquitous last-mile challenge.

Grasshopper, Deliveright's proprietary platform, manages all stages of fulfillment and provides visibility from the first- to the last mile of delivery with Deliveright technology. It streamlines documentation for every delivery and provides instant updates regarding delivery status, completions, and reported issues. Based on customer data, Deliveright says it has one of the lowest damage rates in the industry, with 80% fewer damages and rejected orders than its competitors.
